At Acadiana Veterinary Clinic, we understand that while surgery is a part of our everyday routine, it’s not something you and your pet have to face very often.

The truth is, when a loved one needs surgery, it can be a frightening time – regardless of whether that family member happens to have two legs or four, or is covered in skin, fur, feathers or scales. Chances are you have lots of questions, like whether or not your pet will be in a lot of pain, or if you should worry about complications. We know the many concerns you’re struggling with and we’re prepared to do whatever it takes to set your mind at ease. Our goal is to not only ensure that your pet’s surgery is a success, but that it’s also a positive, stress-free experience for you both.

The doctors and staff at Acadiana Veterinary Clinic possess years of experience performing a wide range of pet surgeries, from routine spays and neuters to complex, life-saving procedures. The day of your pet’s surgery, we will welcome you both, help you to fill out any necessary paperwork and get your loved one settled in. You can be assured that your pet will never be left alone while in our care, and will be comforted and carefully looked after as we administer the pain medication and prep them for surgery. Only when your companion is safely and fully sedated will we begin working on them.

Your pet’s surgical procedure, whether routine or complex, will be handled with the utmost of care. The doctor will work diligently and with great precision to complete the procedure as efficiently as possible so that we can reduce the amount of time your pet will need to remain under anesthesia. Our highly skilled team members will remain on hand throughout the procedure to closely monitor your pet, ensuring his or her wellbeing at all times while in our care.

Acadiana Veterinary Clinic offers routine surgeries such as spay, castration, declaw (front only), and tail docs We also offer a number of non-routine and more advanced surgeries such as mass removals, laceration repair, orthopedic procedures, and exploratory surgeries. Every aspect of your pet’s surgical care will be tailored specifically to meet his or her unique needs and risk factors so that we can ensure a successful, uneventful procedure.

When surgery is complete, we will relocate your pet to the recovery area of our hospital, where we will continue to keep a close watch as the anesthesia begins to wear off. One of our team members will remain by your pet’s side to comfort and soothe them as they wake up. At the same time, a member from our team will contact you to let you know how the surgery went and arrange a pickup time for your pet.

When you arrive to retrieve your pet, we will go over our post-surgical care instructions, which may also include a customized pain management plan to make the recovery process as comfortable as possible for your pet. After returning home, we encourage you to contact us should any questions or concerns arise. We are always here to help!
